You might be wondering why I would post advice for piercings on a personal site. Well for one, I love percings. I am a big fan of body art. I think it's just a beautiful way to express yourself, but it must also be taken into consideration. Also, I know a lot of people who recklessly get pierced or tattooed, and that drives me crazy. In case anybody out there is considering getting a body part pierced, you might want to read this first. I'm definitely not an expert at this. I'm only offering some of the tips I've learned through experience and from reading up on piercings.
There are certain things you must remember if you want to get a body part pierced:
01. Some piercings are very elaborate and require a certain position. One example would be eyebrow piercings. There's a certain level of stress the tissue of your eyebrows build up, depending on where the piercing is. If the stress is serious then it could push the ring or barbell out. If you wear glasses or contacts, you must consider that, as well.
02. The way you sleep can obviously cause complications. You might have to break some habits and change your usual sleeping positions.
03. Our ears are all different. People with sensitive ears could end up with some serious problems. I should know because my ears are sensitive. XP I have more than 9 failed attempts at ear piercings.
04. Piercings are addictive. They're art, yes, and they're beautiful. However, you don't want to go over the top. I suggest you consider everything before you decide to get multiple piercings. Don't get hooked. Too many piercings look nasty.
05. Make sure you're not allergic to gold or silver. I'm allergic to gold so most of what I own is silver. It's fine anyway because I like silver better. :)
You need:
01: The right reasons for getting piercings or tattoos. Don't rush in.
02: Someone who's actually licensed to pierce or tattoo people. Friends don't count unless they've got the training and all. Just because you can trust a person doesn't mean you can trust their abilities.
03: Caution. Piercings or tattoos can cause AIDS if the needles are not sterile. Remember, a piercing is a wound. It's open to infection of all sorts.
04: To know what you're doing. You must know what you're getting, especially when dealing with tattoos. For example, a friend of mine was supposed to get "new challenge" in Kanji, but it turns out his new tattoo read "stupid foreigner." No, I'm not kidding. You wouldn't want that happening to you now, would you?
Things to look out for:
01. When piercing your eyebrows, make sure the ear gun is not used. A needle by hand is a must.
02. Make sure you very gently move your piercings every now and then...just a little bit. It should help keep the crust from building up.
03. When your piercing is brand new, I suggest you ask for a tiny ring/barbell. Your flesh will still be tender. You might wanna get used to it first, and I know you won't want your hair to get tangled up with it. Make sure your ring/barbell/whatever is not too small because it could go in the hole. That happened to a friend of mine.
04. Do NOT have a friend, relative, etc. pierce your ear unless he/she is truly a professional, just as I've mentioned above. Remember, HIV can be transmitted through needles.
05. I strongly suggest you consider one very important thing before you get your tongue pierced: the barbel rubs against the roof of your mouth, and thus, the gums weaken and you risk losing teeth.
* I had other information about soap, what to use, the scale of pain for each piercing, etc. but I lost the info. -_-'' Let me look.
